Adversity Builds Character

While in my adolescence, my father once told me that adversity builds character and character makes us stronger. Like most adolescents, I was bulletproof, so this concept went right over my head. Sure we lose some, but we've gained lots also.

I hope that you will take a few minutes to allow me to share some of my experiences, and the insights I have gained in overcoming the adversities that life sometimes presents us with.

Sincerely,
Mark Wilson

Too Buff to Break
That was then, this is now. In my first life, my athletic lifestyle resulted in a lot of weight bearing, which builds bone density. With martial arts and gymnastics, I learned how to fall, and the muscle mass worked like airbags. I was unbreakable. Now turn the page and enter hemiplegia. The paralyzed side of my body can no longer absorb enough shock. Hence, my recent flurry of fractures. In fifty years, I had never broken a bone. Now a femur and a clavicle in separate bouts with gravity!
Also, some medications have a side effect of more brittle bones. Consequently, I need to reinvent my lifestyle or wear bubble wrap. This is real humbling, as I have never been afraid of falling. Being mortal is hard on my lifestyle!
So, do as I say, not as I do and lets be careful out there!
